invisalign, iTero Scan, Mid Course Correction

Invisalign Trays_Mid Course Correction. Well big day in my Invisalign treatment plan. I had requested a mid course correction as one upper molar has not been moving down and out as planned leaving a big gap between the tooth and the tray, and I knew my dentist had purchased one of the new 3D scanners so I thought that this was an ideal opportunity to review the whole plan. So on Friday I had the new gadget scan my teeth. It is a small hand held device that is run around your teeth, back and forth, back and forth until it builds up a digital scan. It is totally painless and much less stressful that the hideous goop trays that have to be jammed in your mouth and then wrenched off.  He pushed again his preference to change the plan and have no IPR at all, and I reiterated my concern about changing a plan so much at this point with me not knowing what it would look like or how much it would cost. After me nearing tears at the thought of me being forced to take this new direction, he suddenly suggested an option of me seeing the new Clincheck model with no IPR but agreeing to change it back nearer the old plan if I did not like the look of it. So this is what we are now doing. This means I only have to wear trays no 30 at night whilst I wait for the new plan and the new trays – so freedom!!! No trays in the day – AND even better he took off the two attachments that I hate the most, so I am having a little Invisalign holiday right now. I will report back when I see the new plan – very exciting.

Invisalign Trays no 29! So 29/50………and I am actually looking forward to reaching my thirties. This trays went in yesterday and eek a bit tight on the top back teeth but I am actually glad as this should mean the arch is being widened as planned. The tooth that has got left behind (see last post) my dentist has now agreed to do a mid course correction so at my next appointment in 4 weeks, I am going to get scanned with his new gadget, and get then wait to get new trays to pick up this tooth that is now very gappy in the tray, and also make sure I am on track for the next year of treatment. So at the next appointment it was going to be 4 IPR cuts, 1 to the top and 3 to the bottom, but I think this will all get put on hold for 3 weeks whilst I await the new trays. We will see. I can’t wait for the splayed bottom teeth to have the IPR then start getting pulled back in again and one of my top front teeth to be pulled down so that it aligns with the the other one then it feels like I will be on the home straight at last.

Arch widening, invisalign, Invisalign braces

Invisalign Trays No 22!  22/52 and getting nearer to the big half way milestone. Nothing much new to report other than a very stratchy set this time and more soreness at the sharp edges. My front LHS bottom teeth are now looking really quite odd – and skewed, the trays have now caused a horrid underbite on one side so I just have to keep reminding myself that this is part of a long journey and that I have to trust my dentist to know what he is doing – not that he is doing anything really other than checking that they still fit each 3 months or so. I suppose I didn’t quite realise that they could look so odd.  But the top ones are coming along slowly – it is the widening of the arch that I am after and I suppose that it is a long process. I do have a niggling feeling that even when I get to the end of this there might be refinements! I hope everyone else’s treatment plans are going ok? Lispth 0/10 (that means no ill effects) pain 1/10 discomfort 3/10, boredom factor with them 7/10!

invisalign, Invisalign Trays 21

Invisalign Trays no 21! An important milestone today – 40% of the way through this mammoth exercise. I can’t wait to get to the magic 50% of course but today I will focus on 21/52 – hurrah. I go through days of thinking that nothing much has changed to other days when I think the upper teeth are looking much better but the bottom teeth are now looking quite perculiar – as several front teeth are getting so pushed out beyond the top teeth that they look worse than before I started this process. The important next step will be the IPR – but I don’t think that starts until around Trays 28-30 or maybe later – hard to tell from the Clincheck model. I found that even more people at the tennis club have had invisalign – I now know of 5 using invisalign and one with the lingual – and all 35yrs plus – so most second timers to braces. Not one person in all these months has commented on them even tho I have a mouth of attachments – either too polite or just oblivious. Someone did pick up on my sllight lispth the other day tho  and I explained the braces.

Let me know how you are all getting on.

Over and out.

Invisalign Trays No 20!

I am delighted to report that I have passed through and out of my teens. There have been some tears, tantrums and strops – but I have finally reached my twenties…happy days. I can see the top teeth are becoming much straighter and the widening of the top arch is slowly, very slowly beginning to happen. The bottom teeth do look very odd however with the teeth on one side now being pushed so far out I have an underbite…..and the front 6 teeth have been pushed into a ski slope like droop, so I have to just keep with the programme and believe that things have to get worse before they get better.

Not much to report on Trays no 20, the top trays feel loose again after Trays 19 that were actually pleasantly painfully tight.  Only another 32 to go!

Arch widening, invisalign

Invisalign Trays No 19 Orthodontists review.

9 months in. Well just a quick update on my visit to the orthodontist this week. We poured over the clincheck model to talk about the teeth I was worried are looking worse not better – the Mutley canine in particular, but I was assured to keep the faith and just keep wearing the trays, so no refinement at this stage…..phew

What threw me was his comment that invisalign strategies have “moved on” and so now there is an option of a solution involving NO IPR but it could take up to another 6 months if I wanted this and he couldn’t tell me what it would look like other than “better” – so not much to make a decision on! I liked the idea of not having to have my teeth filed down but hated the idea of yet more months in this plastic for something that I could not see a plan for – and that would be almost another 2 yrs!!!!! He has also ordered new sophisticated scanning equipment but won’t have it until June 2016 so unlikely to decide on a refinement until this arrives – beyond the date of my planned IPR in February/ March. Hmmmm……so

We also talked about Invisalign’s ability to widen the arch and I questioned him about the long term stability…..he showed me some impressive work just done on some other patients but does not yet have any evidence that it has held 5 yrs down the line.

Invisalign Trays no 19/52. I have a review with my dentist this week so have raised a few concerns about where things are heading in advance of our appointment. This seems to be the right time to consider do we need to have a refinement or not. I hope not as I want to get through this vacummed packed plastic process as fast as I can but at the same time things look as if they are going a bit awry. My top and bottom front teeth are no longer parallel to each other other, with the bottom teeth seemingly now pushed down on one side. I have had two days this week where I confess I had them out most of the day, the result of a mid morning pastry then meetings.

I did find a photo of my smile pre Invisalign and well I can now see an improvement to the width of my smile. Before I had a very narrow front arch – a bit like Prince William if you know what I mean. Its a bit hard to know if its partly the attachments as they of course visually widen your teeth.

My dentist has still not responded on my enquiry for Acceleredent – I think that is the correct name. He had not ever heard of it, and I think believes in the go slow approach so I doubt he will be recommending it. We would be very interested to hear of anyone using this and what they feel?

I will report in after next appointment.

Invisalign Trays 17 and a 1/3 of the way through!

Invisalign Trays 17.

A double celebration this week – a birthday (luckily not  milestone one) and a whole THIRD of the way through this process. Hurrah….a 1/3….unbelievable! Well correction – a third of the planned 51 trays that the clincheck model shows. I am beginning to understand that this process can go off piste at any stage and refinements can take many months. It seems a long old process, and so the next milestone is now the half way mark.

The latest top tray is relatively loose as usual and so I still have concerns that the widening of the arch is actually working. I still cannot see any real movement at the sides at all.

The bottom tray is tight as usual and ouch when I took it out today after a few hours to eat breakfast. A few teeth including the Mutley canine are still pushing out and are beginning to look quite prominent but IPR to three of these teeth is planned for around February when hopefully they will begin to get pushed back in again.

No more ulcers, and no sharp edges on this set. My tennis buddy with Lingual braces is having all sorts of complications, with wax dropping off, power chains breaking, and now the latest it that she may have to have invisalign type retainers for 3 months at the end of treatment. So far I am still pleased with the flexibility of invisalign – the question still remains will they actual do what has been planned in the timeframe stated?

Keep the faith, and eat the cake.

invisalign, Invisalign and holiday, Invisalign Trays 16

Invisalign Trays 16. I am trying to post this on holiday and it keeps crashing but here goes again. The top tray is finally tight on the top RHS molar that is the most pushed into the roof of my mouth so finally movement I hope. Nothing to report on the two front teeth and Nanny McFee although Nanny McFee is already much improved I think. Bottom set more pressure – but on the RHS molars not on the left as expected, and glad to say nothing on the front teeth.

Does anyone else name their problem teeth or is it just me?

Soaking in bottled water not tap – just in case of bugs. So far so good.

Nearly at no 17 and the major 1/3 of the way through milestone…..nearly nearly.

Invisalign Trays 15! and ulcers

30 Sunday Aug 2015

invisalign, invisalign and ulcers, invisalign trays 15

Invsialign Trays 15. These went in yesterday morning, again the top one surprisingly loose so still amazed that it is supposed to be doing anything at all. The bottom one still pushing out the canine so look Mutley is well on track – delightful. I can see movement but it does seem SUCH a SLOW process.

Yesterday afteroon however following a special Teeth and Tennis birthday tea – the pain on brushing was agony – the top LHS molar – agony, so absess? cracked tooth? cavity? All worrying as about to go on holiday – great timing. Warm salt washes and scrubbing galore gave no relief and this morning same problem – ugh. Off to tennis where luckily another friend is a dentist – hurrah and kindly gave me a 5mins consult – verdict likely ulcers – delightful. So on getting home I discovered a long thin ulcer at the top of the gum line likely caused by a sharp edge of the invisalign tray. So Bonjela on, salt washes, grimacing but at least a way forward.

Is it that Invisalign trays can cause ulcers in this way – off to do some research on this matter as this is very painful. I have had the odd ulcer at the front of my mouth before normally if I have bitten myself by accident or stress chewing but nothing like this.

Oh the joys of vanity.

Oh and Oh
